Dr. Tonya J. Nalls, Founder
Dr. Tonya J. Nalls has over 25 years of experience in special education administration and teaching in both general and special education settings. Before retiring in July 2022, she served as a Director of Special Education for the Special School District of St. Louis County. In this role, she was responsible for coordinating and overseeing Special Education Programs within partner districts, as well as providing district-wide professional development and training. She also worked to ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing students with disabilities and suspected disabilities and to develop processes to effectively allocate and utilize resources. Dr. Nalls also played a key role in collaborating with other district leaders to remove barriers to general education and support all students in achieving high levels of success.
In addition to her administrative role, Dr. Nalls was a classroom teacher for students in grades 3-12 with varying ability levels. She worked closely with community agencies to develop programs that prepared students to become productive members of society while learning 21st Century Skills. She emphasized goal-setting and positive learning outcomes in her partnerships with parents and students.
In her current role as the Founder of Just Be Books & More LLC, Dr. Nalls continues to draw on her experiences to coordinate student services and support to improve outcomes for students, families, staff, and the community. Her vision for Just Be Books & More LLC is to provide supportive services and reading material for aspiring writers and readers of all ages and Lexile levels. Her recent works focus on educating readers about God and inspiring them to explore their identities in Christ. "Let Him Use You" is a Christian picture book that encourages readers to face challenges with resilience, inspired by biblical events. "The Gift in Me" emphasizes the importance of recognizing one's spiritual gifts and using them to make a positive impact on others. Dr. Nalls has also curated a collection of journals aimed at self-discovery and reflection, providing an opportunity for readers to connect with God's presence while renewing their minds.
Dr. Nalls' books, often referred to as "crossover books" or "all-ages books," contain themes and messages that can be appreciated by readers of different ages, combining elements of children's literature with more complex ideas that resonate with adult readers.
